EDIT.
by Marie Wynants

Introducing Marie Wynants, a Brussels-based photographer with a deep urge to make everything more beautiful. A PM girl, not a morning person, she loves melancholy, outdoor showers, and admits to being a little voyeuristic — though, in her words, “photographer” comes with better lighting and a legitimate excuse to stare.

Before photography, there was dance, an early fascination with movement that still shapes the way she works today. Moving between portraits, editorials, and campaigns for names including Delvaux, Ann Demeulemeester, Chanel, Cartier, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton, the human body remains at the centre of her images. Movement and gesture often carry the story, sometimes with a face obscured to leave more room for interpretation.

Brussels is where she calls home and where much of her creative life unfolds, usually with no clue what day it is.

“What I love most about this KASSL bomber is the adjustable waist. You can completely change the silhouette depending on how tight you pull it. I like it sculpted and cropped. And no one does rubber like KASSL.”

Designer

“My favourite designer is Joris Poggioli. Should I ever become aware of my own mortality, I'd like to be buried in a coffin of his design. Nobody’s doing anything interesting with coffins. Whether he'd appreciate the request is another matter entirely. I'm simply obsessed with his work. The pieces, the buildings, the projects. All of it.”

Drink

“A dirty Martini, make it wet.

1/3 gin Tanqerey Ten
2/3 dry Vermouth
Olive brine - make it filthy

A castelvetrano olive on a silver Jessi Burch martini pick

Stirred never shaken, served in an ice-cold glass.”

Space

“My favourite space is, embarrassingly, the one I live in. I don't have a studio, and I don't really have an office either. I work from home, usually flat on my stomach on the fitted carpet, laptop in front of me like a teenager doing homework. The apartment itself looks like it walked straight out of Sterling Cooper. Low furniture, warm wood… It has the feel of a hotel suite, one I've quietly claimed permanent residency in.”

Light

“Natural light doesn't get a chance. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't exist on set. My light is hard. Bare bulb flash, no gradual shadows, no mercy. Flexible graphic accents where needed, mostly Profoto.”

Place

“My boyfriend.”

Guilty pleasure

“America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (Netflix docu). In another life, I’d have been a DCC with pom poms.”
