Saskia Noor van Imhoff is a boundary-pushing Dutch artist whose work unravels the complex systems of classification, curation, and preservation that shape our understanding of culture and history. Her practice interrogates the notion of a "collection"—not merely as an archive of objects, but as an evolving system of knowledge that mirrors architectural human impulses to differentiate, structure, and assign value. Through photography, sculpture, and installations, van Imhoff collapses the hierarchies between art, nature, and architecture, questioning the very idea of an artwork as a static, singular entity.

Recently, her inquiry has extended to a historic farmland along the northern Dutch coast, a site she regards as a living archive. Here, the process of cultivating and reconfiguring the land becomes a metaphor for broader cycles of renewal, reclamation, and transformation. Van Imhoff’s conceptual practice invites us to reconsider how landscapes—both literal and intellectual—can be continuously grafted and reshaped, opening up new possibilities for rethinking value, legacy, and use.

In this conversation too, van Imhoff reflects on the philosophical underpinnings of her work, the evolving relationship between art and nature, and the deeply personal journey of creating meaning from place.

“It changes from day to day, but somehow the work After A Life Ahead by Pierre Huyghe pops up in my mind right now. It was part of Skulptur Projekte Münster in 2017 and consisted of a strange ecosystem in an abandoned iceskating hall. I couldn’t stop wandering through this installation and ended up staying for more than two hours.”
